SEXUAL PROBLEMS
Sexual problems are very common and can have a physical or psychological cause and sometimes are a combination of both. A detailed assessment of the problem in the first session will help identify the underlying cause(s) and the most suitable treatment options. Often this will be brief and effective CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). But we will also discuss other approaches and which one is the most suitable for you at the present time.
If you are in a committed relationship it might be useful if your partner attended sessions too, but this is not essential to successful treatment. There are numerous problems that can be helped by sex therapy, but most are connected to one or more of the following:
Addiction – unable to control sexual activity, e.g. compulsively visiting massage parlours/sex workers, using online porn
Anogasmia – difficulty reaching an orgasm
Desire disorders – e.g. Loss of sexual desire/enjoyment
Dyspareunia – pain before or during intercourse
Erection problems – difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection
Ejaculation - Premature/too rapid ejaculation
Phobias – e.g. fear of sexual contact/intercourse
Retarded ejaculation – inability to reach orgasm/ejaculate
Vaginismus - inability to have vaginal penetration/intercourse
